I had not printed for a very long while. In fact, since I printed flags for Kristin's wedding, which I do intend to post about, at a later time. I have used some of these screens and stencils before, but as an afterthought-on top of the block prints. This time I decided that the screen and stencils should be printed first.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKSaFAxF1gM4QGH-UZ-ZR0ropv6Uev70Oi0PW_hLBn9hNYvr6uY2igYgHy4_j1bbnrXQ1NXQGiG3CQmsjey2pgaC-UhQVsSrTzGAFg-LHxiaeQuhopza6v2XEOcQy6IR4ysXqggiOSPhaO/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKSaFAxF1gM4QGH-UZ-ZR0ropv6Uev70Oi0PW_hLBn9hNYvr6uY2igYgHy4_j1bbnrXQ1NXQGiG3CQmsjey2pgaC-UhQVsSrTzGAFg-LHxiaeQuhopza6v2XEOcQy6IR4ysXqggiOSPhaO/s320/001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Some of these are ready for my block fish or birds but some of them will get another screen or two on top. I couldn't work fast enough and the screens were clogging.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I printed the largest of the stencil waste that I have. The one on the bottom, farthest right will get halibut printed on it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I will print yellow on top of these, but maybe another layer of red. I really am pleased with the prints that incorporate yellow and red.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Humpbacks Are Coming includes shibori dyed fabric in the print panels, the whales are printed with a hand carved stamp. I am very pleased with the quilting on this piece. It is hard to see in the photos, but it has great texture in the right light.</div>

I would say that the show of my quilts at the Baranov Museum on Friday evening was a success. 75 people attended and three of my quilts were purchased, in addition to one that was in the museum gift shop. The show was hung on the enclosed porch of the museum. One of the challenges was that since this is a historic building, we couldn't just hammer nails into the walls. There were hooks in the ceiling, though, left from a previous display of fish prints that were done in 1986 by Something Fishy-Eva Holm, Chris Holland, and Kathy Kinnear. I digress, but these prints had hung on the porch since 1986 and were in great shape-color still vibrant. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had predrilled some 4' dowels, and all of my hanging rods were drilled as well. We used fishing line and started hanging the quilts, with them strung together. The only problem with this system is that you can't always take the quilts down one at a time without disturbing the others that they are connected to. Since this was a one night show, we asked that the quilts that were sold be picked up the following day. The light was awesome, but this venue would not work after dark!</div>

Thanks to Anjuli Grantham and all the ladies at the Baranov Museum for putting on this event and for the vote of confidenc,e in applying for and receiving a Rasmusson Grant to purchase the four pieces that will remain in the Museum's collection. At some point the quilts will go to Anchorage and be displayed at the Rasmusson Foundation.</div>

Habitat has a pieced background, constructed with commercial fabrics. The fish and crabs were printed with hand carved stamps and Daniel Smith Oil based-water soluble printing ink. I carve 2 crabs so I could show distance in pieces like this. I cut out the individual fish and crabs and fused them onto the background. The rocks are freezer paper machine applique, then I hand stitched fibers and buttons and beads. Below you can see the details in the closeup photo.<br />

This quilt has been in the works for a very long time. I printed the distant mountains and the birds on commercial fabric, then it hung on my wall waiting for inspiration. I intended to add another border beyond the arch, but I didn't have enough fabric. Sometimes the best inspiration comes from necessity!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I am busy with last minute details, getting ready for the show at the Baranov Museum, on Friday, August 31st, from 4-7 PM. I have two more pieces that I need to finish, one needs binding and a hanging sleeve, and one needs just a hanging sleeve. When I was at the museum yesterday to plan how to hang the quilts, I also took my small quilts to show Sarah for the gift shop. She took them all, and I found out this morning that they are buying all of them outright-I was happy with consignment! The following pictures are some of the quilts that will be shown at the Baranov Museum on Friday. The four that the museum purchased will be on display, as well. They can be seen here: <a href="http://sallysartquilts.blogspot.com/2012/08/great-news.html">http://sallysartquilts.blogspot.com/2012/08/great-news.html</a></div>

The borders on Fish Kodiak began as a slash and sew experiment. My daughter, Ingrid, saw some sunprinted pillows on Pinterest, that she wanted to try making, so we spent a morning sunprinting in July. There wasn't alot of room to work, so this is all I did that day, leaving her room to work. I used Setacolor transparent paint, and a stencil. I like how the layering in this piece effectively shows perspective.<br />

Spring is constructed from all hand-dyed fabric. The flowers are made from a piece of lace that I got from my friend, Eva, and dyed. The chickadee was printed with a hand carved linoleum block. The borders were constructed freeform.<br />

The Baranof Museum, in Kodiak, AK, has received a grant from the Rasmusson Foundation to purchase four of my quilts. They decided to go with a salmon theme and purchased the four following quilts. There will be a show in conjunction with the Kodiak Art Council's annual Art Walk, on August 31st, from 4-7pm at the museum. In addition to the four quilts purchased by the museum, there will be 15 other quilts available to view and purchase.</div>

Sockeye is the oldest of the quilts, made in 2009. It is 19”
x 32” and is constructed from commercial fabrics with some elements fused appliqued
after the background was pieced. Machine
quilted on a home sewing machine. Hand
embroidered and beaded with a variety of different beads, fibers and buttons. In the following close-up photos, you can see all the handstitched embroidery and beaded elements.<br />

This is a post about what I have completed since the first of the year. I usually have several pieces going at any moment, and I tend to wait until I have a few pieces to quilt before I switch the machine over. Even if I practice before I start on a quilt, I find that my stitching gets better if I do several in succession. My intent was to enter them in the Crab Festival Art Show, but here I sit with no way to deliver them, or pick them up on Sunday, so they will wait for another day to be shown in public, but I will show them here. I broke my ankle a month ago, and although I expected to be on the mend by now, that is not the case, and I am still not able to drive.</div>

This quilt actually came after the one that follows. I ended up with more of the border squares after I had tried out some different layouts, and I had one more of the crab prints from a print session last Fall. The quilting on this one is very simple, but I like it.<br />

<br />
This is the first of these King Crab quilts that I started. I tried a few different settings for the border squares before I finally settled on this. I wanted to have room for quilting on the border. You can see the quilting in the close-up picture that follows. <br />

I wish that I had used a heavier thread. This was done with trilobal polyester variegated thread, which I love. I am trying to be more bold with my machine quilting. This light weight thread is great for texture, but I would have liked to have seen a bolder line here. I just ordered a set of Sulky Blendables-30 wt. It was spendy, but now I know I have all the colors. I have a problem remembering what I have when I order thread!<br />

There are two red quilts in this batch of work. I was just having too much fun with the rich reds, and I probably overcut as I often do when i am working on a strip piece. The idea was to put cross strips in as I built the strip pieced fabric.<br />

I am still stuck in the red zone with this next piece but it is the accent fabric. On this piece the goal was to build the stripped fabric around the prints-very improvisationally. There were a few times that the plan shifted-to get it all sewn together.<br />

This last quilt is probably my favorite in this grouping. This piece started with two fairly large pieces of stripped fabric. I then cut panels from each, offsetting the strips in opposite directions to get the zigzag effect in the background. This piece hung on my wall, with freezer paper depicting the circles for a long time. The fish were not tightly packed enough on the original piece of fabric, so I added some fish. You can see before and after in this post: <a href="http://sallysartquilts.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html">http://sallysartquilts.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html</a>. <br />

It took me a long time to get the color of the ink correct that day. For some reason, I thought that I had used more blue ink, so I had to do alot of printing to use up all the ink I had out! I faced both of the red quilts, rather than applying borders as I normally do. It is a good option that I have never before utilized. Sometimes you want that extra bit of color that the binding can provide, but as these pieces show, sometimes you don't. </div>

All of these quilts started with prints that I did from my own handcarved stamps on fabric that I dyed. I love handdyed fabric, but I also love the combinations you can achieve from commercial prints-texture, texture, texture!Sallyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12859565256398718122noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-621536555893446361.post-18872029604659465222012-05-08T22:47:00.000-07:002012-05-19T18:04:14.264-07:00Repurposed tablecloths<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="text-align: left;">I had these three tablecloths that were destined to be disposed of when we start packing up our house sometime soon. I had dye left in the refrigerator from dying the fabric for Kristin's wedding flags, so I decided to dye these tableclothes and see if there was anything worth keeping. This one I really like alot, and the light colored areas were a surprise although I did suspect that part wasn't cotton.</span> </div>

This one turned out wild and crazy but I like it. If I decide it is too much for the table I have some ideas for cutting it up and using it in quilts.<br />

I was going for a gradation on this one-dark in the center to light on the edges, but it wasn't working so I did some rubber band binding and overdyed in Cerulean blue. It is still green in the center, but the edges blend better than they did after the first dye bath.<br />

I used heavier thread than I normally quilt with and am happy with the results. You can see a closeup of the stitching below. The water was stitched with Signature variegated quilting thread-40 wt, I believe. The red section was stitched with Sulky Blendables, 30 wt. Unfortunately, I don't have many spools of heavier thread, but I have lots of trilobal polyester! Oh joy, another thing I need to collect!</div>

So, now I am down to one more piece that needs quilting. Although it has not been a joyride fracturing my ankle, I would never have gotten these 6 pieces quilted. Bindings, labels and sleeves and they are done. Oh yeah-naming the, too. I don't enjoy naming my quilts!Sallyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12859565256398718122noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-621536555893446361.post-85909762249833230572012-05-07T23:33:00.000-07:002012-05-07T23:35:29.150-07:00New thingsThis is what I have been working on. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This is where it started. I tried cutting circles out of the long piece in the photo above and there were too many gaps between the fish. Then I got up this morniung and had to face the prospect of making a plane reservation for Nick, my husband, who really didn't have a plan. Not to mention that I can't go on this trip for various reasons. So I was in a funk. Art is a funk breaker so I set up a table and went to work.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm7hIFYLUA_QyeXfOx44hatgmuL6AY6hgth0B3srqg_joX_anMyH5v0x5kQtG47xniX0mohQQ1qaiyTaJoncSIowLoprk43kQLjZWN51Rc0bAifp-0aq9aO-3nGadisSjbBvubvW7c8d25/s1600/DSCN0568.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm7hIFYLUA_QyeXfOx44hatgmuL6AY6hgth0B3srqg_joX_anMyH5v0x5kQtG47xniX0mohQQ1qaiyTaJoncSIowLoprk43kQLjZWN51Rc0bAifp-0aq9aO-3nGadisSjbBvubvW7c8d25/s320/DSCN0568.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sunburst Spirals</td></tr>
</tbody></table>We had a meeting with the contractor who is building our new house yesterday morning which gave me alot to think about. I do my best thinking when I am cutting or stitching so when we were done, I headed downstairs and this is what I did while I was thinking. I dyed the fabric 2 years ago, and had cut it up and sewed it back together quite a while ago. It languished for some time because I wasn't sure what I thought of it, and what to do next. Yesterday, I layered and quilted, then today I couched the spirals. I am still not sure what I think, and I may not even finish it, but I do have a clear head!<br />
<br />
This business of planning a house is hard work. We want what we want, but don't want to build a giant house that will make it necessary to work until we are 90 to pay for it! I am excited that I am getting a studio, finally. I have had a space of my own for a few years, but it is in the dungeon with no windows, and in the winter I have to start an electric heater well in advance of actually spending time down there because it is cold. It is a very small space and I have stored my fabric in totes that are piled up so when I am searching for fabric, I have to wrestle the totes around. My new studio is a long skinny room-10 x 20, I think. Lot of room, and although it is on the first floor of the house, it will have alot of morning light-perfect for me since I work nights and my studio time is generally in the morning. The laundry room is immediately adjacent to the studio so my intent is to do my dying in there. <br />
<br />
We are building on the same site that we live in now, so very soon we will have to pack up and move out of the house. We do have a place to go during construction, but still I feel like I will be homeless. On my mind is what I need to keep with me during construction in terms of art supplies. My sewing machine, thread, beads, some fabric-won't have much space to keep thing so I must keep it simple. But some sort of a sewing kit will be essential to my sanity. I am trying to get several pieces started so I can decide what I will need to complete them.<br />
<br />
Another thing I have been trying to do is destash. I know I have way too much fabric, especially since I have started dying and printing fabric. I went through everything and sent 6 large flat rate boxes to Anchorage to my daughters, but I know more has to go. I have so much fabric that I don't see half of what I have. I am thinking that I will have a different sensibility about my fabric stash after I live without it completely for 6 months. Perhaps when I move into the new studio and see how much storage space I have, it will be easier to let go.Sallyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12859565256398718122noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-621536555893446361.post-10458905682950214062012-03-13T00:40:00.002-07:002012-03-13T01:23:49.426-07:00The Reef<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

30" x 40"</td></tr>
</tbody></table>About a month ago I was asked to create a piece to hang in Representative Alan Austerman's office in Juneau. Very exciting, because it was my first commission, and because of where it will hang. They looked at the pictures on my blog and decided that they wanted one with similar colors to the quilt on my header, and specified the size of 30" x 40".<br />
<br />
The background is pieced-first by sewing strips together, then I cut squares from the resulting fabric. I did 3 different strip sets- one for the forground, one for the mid section, and one for the water. The fish and crabs were printed with blocks that I carved, and Daniel Smith water soluble printing ink. I carved a second, smaller crab so they appeared more distant. I cut them out and fused them to the background. The seaweed was stitched on tulle layered with angelina fiber and water soluble stabilizer. I shaped the rocks using freezer paper, then used an invisible stitch to apply them to the quilt, with various ribbons tucked behind for more seaweed. Finally, I added more embellishments with buttons, beads and hand dyed pearl cotton. I love the little beaded jelly fish.<br />

I used some of my ugly scarves-the ones that I had kept trying to no avail. Since this one, I have done some with leaf stencils that worked well. I also took the scarves that were not sucessful and boiled them with dye remover, the aplied soy wax and over-dyed. they are in the wash now. will give an update tomorrow.Sallyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12859565256398718122noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-621536555893446361.post-82915723898703894242011-10-06T23:33:00.000-07:002011-10-06T23:41:46.085-07:00Kodiak Bear Paw Quilters Annual Quilt Show<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyXH7MwTN2ydFetkgtwceRA0CQcR6vubypiCdE6XDiRTWXP8hw2rlkrVUHMuN9sRootZejghAa-2u1ql16eiJSZeACooQkhKSu2Hr-AjUvAkBgbMG7UnlT2-EK8VkD-T093vNdiy6gvGcv/s1600/DSCN0419_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="291" kca="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyXH7MwTN2ydFetkgtwceRA0CQcR6vubypiCdE6XDiRTWXP8hw2rlkrVUHMuN9sRootZejghAa-2u1ql16eiJSZeACooQkhKSu2Hr-AjUvAkBgbMG7UnlT2-EK8VkD-T093vNdiy6gvGcv/s320/DSCN0419_edited-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>The Kodiak Bear paw Quilters hold a quilt show every year. The show is Saturday and Sunday, October 8th and 9th, at the Kodiak High School auditorium Foyer. These are my entries. The photo above is called Big Dipper. It is 21.5 x 20. This piece started out with a piece of hand dyed fabric. I had a block left over from a reduction print I made in Liz Mitchell's print workshop, with which I printed the distant mountains. I decided to extend the mountains beyond the silk border. The gradations in the border are hand dyed. I originally printed the stars with gold Lumiere paint, but they weren't as bright as I wanted, so I stitched with gold metallic thread. This is the quilt that led me to a thread crisis about a month ago. I ran out of thread with only 12" of the border left to quilt! I asked the wrong daughter to quickly send me thread!<br />

The print is an Alutiq petroglyph. She is actually the only recognizable female figure. Arms upraised signifies dancing. Although I am not Alaskan Native, she is my Goddess. The people who carved these images in the rocks many, many years ago, came to this island from someplace else and made it their home, just like I have. I was not born here, but after 35 years, I am from here.<br />

This piece shows one more stage of the reduction print. The stars and the Northern Lights were printed first, then that was cut away, and the mountains were printed. I really like that the red border does not extend into the mountains, making them look more authentic. The gradations in the border are hand dyed.<br />

One morning, I just decided to start cutting this print up and inserted strips thinking sea grass. I was happy with the layering effect, and though everything matched up quite well for freeform work. I don't normally do alot of hand embroidery-I am pretty much hooked on beads, but the stitching on this piece was fun and I am pleased with the results. I used 3 stands of red embroidery thread on the distant blades, and hand dyed purple Size 5 pearl cotton on the closer blades. I will not try that again-multiple layers of pimatex is not easy to pull that thick of a thread through. I used hand dyed size 12 pearl cotton to outline the starfish, which turned out great. I bought both of those thread at Visions in San Diego last Spring. Then, of course the required beads and buttons were added. I used higher contrast thread than I normally do. I have thought that my stitching gets lost when i use lower contrast thread, but I am not all that great of a stitcher. Of course, when my thread really show is when my sewing machine started misbehaving and eating the thread. I tried new needles, rethreaded, put on some thread treatment. She just was angry with me that day, I guess. Our first bad day!<br />

I posted about this piece several months ago. i wasn't happy with the placement of the mini quilt. I moved it around for months, then I read somewhere to leave blank space in the upper left corner, which works for me. This is my donation for the silent auction.<br />
<br />
I have been playing with Decolorant and paint with stencils this week, as a means of procrastinating binding and hanging sleeves! I had some ugly scarves that I experimented with. I used spray decolorant on one which was a mistake-it crept under the stencil. Then I did three with plain decolorant paste. I was working on a table with batting, covered with plastic. I guess paper or cotton underneath would be better. The paste went through the scarf and seemed to just sit there on the plastic. You can't move the scarf until it is dry, also. Anyway, one of those is beautiful. Then, I used yellow Decolorant and a leaf stencil on a red scarf. That one is pretty awesome. Finally, I printed Lumiere paing with a stencil. those turned out OK, but it is hard to apply the correct amount of paint. Tomorrow, I will take some photos and post them.<br />

Of course, there was family politics involved-it was purchased the Aunt of my daughter, Kristin's, fiance. All the same it sold for a good price and I wasn't shamed by having it sent back like last year. I haven't posted much lately-not because I haven't been doing anything, but because I have been to busy to take pictures and post. Then, it took hours to upload the pictures! The two pieces on the left were bound with clamps, and on the right with rubber bands. The fabric was originally goldish, rustish, green, then overdyed in cobalt. They are actually alot more brown than they appear in the photo. I am very happy with these pieces. A closeup shown below.</div>

I do not know why, but it seems that I go through about 20 yards of fabric before I finally start getting results that I am really happy with. If I was more consistant with my dying, I am sure that this would not be the case. I forget everything I learned, when there is months between dye sessions. Next year I hope to be moving into a new studio where I can work year round. The photo above shows some pieces that were bound with rubber bands and dyed twice.</div>

I really, really like these pieces. I folded the fabric in half, then stitched half circles approximately 1/2 " apart. First I dyed the one on the left in fushia and purple and the one on the right in teal. Then I overdyed in a very dark cobalt dye. I dipped the stitched portion first, then scrunched the remaining fabric in a container with dye, with the stitched portion sticking above the dye-because I didn't want much of the dark in the center. <br />

I had to come home on my dinner break from work last night to rinse these fabrics out. Couldn't wait until I got home! When I came home from work, I got several more pieces of fabric ready to dyd. Success is very motivational!</div>

When something is not in use, it gets stowed away. Once I got out all the gear for dying, I can't stop until I am done! No dawdling about it. For the last week, I have done some sort of task related to dying every day. These photos show some of what I have accomplished. I dyed several 6 step gradations. I have been starting with dye and fabric, after 10 minutes add soda ash, then another piece of fabric, and so on, so that it gets lighter as you add fabric. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgl972COnI_L9x4LWL-42HE0vIRwWGUlnDz3sVKWgbRs0j8xmJH-vG0MjPmnSaTc6eLpn53HFbZpk6USD2sdBApZztSg1YQr-f4XoLuR2Ti-ptgzgquodOZ3G7oNLV-UqxxwJ7i-0VRUlsF/s1600/DSCN0293.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgl972COnI_L9x4LWL-42HE0vIRwWGUlnDz3sVKWgbRs0j8xmJH-vG0MjPmnSaTc6eLpn53HFbZpk6USD2sdBApZztSg1YQr-f4XoLuR2Ti-ptgzgquodOZ3G7oNLV-UqxxwJ7i-0VRUlsF/s320/DSCN0293.jpg" width="320" xaa="true" /></a></div> Some of them don't have as much variance as I would like to see. The next batch I will try mixing the dye for each step. More work, but if I get better results...These are all fat eighths. Mixing each stage, I will do larger pieces of fabric.<br />

I posted some pics of the scarves tha Olivia and I dyed yesterday, but I managed to be patient enough with my cotton to wait until morning to rinse everything out. I was so anxious to get started that I began as soon as I got out of bed. I got caught in my jammies, hair not combed, and very colorful hands, by some old friends who are visiting Kodiak. </div><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My Northern Lights piece. this piece was stitched. I used to thick of thread which left thread marks which could have been avoided with thinner thread. I think. I had alot of trouble removing the thread from a wet piece of fabric. Perhaps on the next stitched pieces I should dry it before I try removing the thread. I ended up with some small hole that, although they are unfortunate, won't matter because the piece will be cut up.</td></tr>

I am going to dye a 12 step colorwheel gradation. I learned last year that if you want them all to turn out similar, you need to use the same size of container. I had a friend in a restaurant save 1/2 gal sour cream containers for me and I found some pitchers at Walmart, so i am set. I want my gradation to have the same mottled appearance. I want to dye yards of fabric so I had to mix up lots of dye. Had a near disaster. I bought a cheap blender to mix my dyes. Even though I had it in a washtub, I made a big mess. For some reason turquoise foams up alot in the blender. I had turquoise dye all over the place-including my new shirt that I wasn't smart enough to change when I came home! But, I got the shirt sprayed and into the wash right away so it is fine, and the dye was cleaned up before Nick got home. He would not have been happy!</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Truxton and Olivia graciously offered to hold them up so I could take a photo. I will send them to Anchorage with friends that are going to visit.</td></tr>
</tbody></table> I spent the day today with my son, Nick's, kids-Truxton, Olivia and Braelyn. We started the day previewing the movie, Winnie the Pooh, at the theater AI manage. When we returned to my house, Braelyn took a nap, and the older kids wer busily occupied so I got out the dye I mixed up yesterday, and all of the poles that I wrapped some time ago- you can see here: <a href="http://sallysartquilts.blogspot.com/2011/07/what-i-have-been-doing.html">http://sallysartquilts.blogspot.com/2011/07/what-i-have-been-doing.html</a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXDM5tCYtIBaMxjN2fWhx8g1oIinkLNHTT6lWmqFrIK8IVJosQBGvq9o1g4Lia3AQ9MXJhfzQdf0b2oVfXzzbFesdt5K8CuRA0Qpc8HKVoOQpgY5qokym0Kd5iySx6qPUUIFprGrv0R3wa/s1600/DSCN0255.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" qaa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXDM5tCYtIBaMxjN2fWhx8g1oIinkLNHTT6lWmqFrIK8IVJosQBGvq9o1g4Lia3AQ9MXJhfzQdf0b2oVfXzzbFesdt5K8CuRA0Qpc8HKVoOQpgY5qokym0Kd5iySx6qPUUIFprGrv0R3wa/s320/DSCN0255.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />

I bound stones and tied them off with little rubber bands. This one is not destined to remain a scarf since I was impatient removing the rubber bands and accidently cut the scarf a tiny bit. Now I will cut it up and find a creative use for it. Stay tuned-tomorrow I will post pics of my water and northern lights shibori. Better turn out really cool since I have hours into the preparation for dying!Sallyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12859565256398718122noreply@blogger.com2
